You will gain knowledge on post-partum health promotion within midwifery.

First topic: Health promotion: Midwifery considerations in the post-partum period

The aim of this topic is to use the concept of health promotion in reflective study activities, where you are asked to reflect on you own midwifery praxis.

Second topic:  Recommendations and benefits of breastfeeding - including parents’ experiences related to breastfeeding

You will be presented to recommendations for breastfeeding. WHO and UNICEF have clear recommendations regarding breastfeeding. These recommendations are supported by studies showing how the baby and mother benefit from breastfeeding. More recently studies have shown that parents´ experiences relating to the promotion, guidance and support they receive concerning breastfeeding have a big impact on how they succeed with breastfeeding. You will gain knowledge and awareness to serve as a base of understanding for the importance of individual care, and why midwives should avoid unnecessary interventions.

Third topic: Anatomy and physiology of lactation

The anatomy and physiology of lactation is essential to understand the mechanisms of breastfeeding. This gained knowledge serves as a basis for understanding complex and complicated situations in breastfeeding.
